Desktop App Troubleshooting
ProFix common issues with the Voltasis desktop app including system tray, hotkeys, and idle detection problems.
If you're having trouble with the Voltasis desktop app, try these troubleshooting steps. The desktop app is available on the Pro plan.
System tray icon missing
macOS
- Check System Settings > Control Center > Menu Bar Only for third-party icons.
- Quit and relaunch the app.
- If the icon doesn't appear, the menu bar may be full. Close other menu bar apps.
Windows
- Click the up arrow in the system tray to see hidden icons.
- Right-click the taskbar > Taskbar Settings > Select which icons appear. Enable Voltasis.
- If the icon isn't there, quit and relaunch the app.
Linux
- System tray support depends on your desktop environment.
- GNOME users may need the AppIndicator extension.
- KDE Plasma and XFCE support system tray icons natively.
Hotkeys not working
- Check that hotkeys are enabled in Settings > Hotkeys in the desktop app.
- Ensure no other application is using the same key combination.
- Try changing the hotkey to a different combination.
- On macOS, ensure Voltasis has Accessibility permissions (System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility).
Idle detection not triggering
- Verify idle detection is enabled in Settings > Timer.
- Check the idle threshold — set it to at least 5 minutes.
- Ensure the app is running (check the system tray icon).
- On macOS, ensure Voltasis has Input Monitoring permissions (System Settings > Privacy & Security > Input Monitoring).
App won't start
- Try running the app from the command line to see error messages.
- Delete the app's configuration directory and restart:
- macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Voltasis/ - Windows:
%APPDATA%/Voltasis/ - Linux:
~/.config/Voltasis/
- macOS:
- Reinstall the app from voltasis.com/download.
Timer shows wrong time
If the desktop timer is out of sync with the web:
- Check your system clock is correct and set to the right time zone.
- Force a sync by clicking the sync icon in the system tray menu.
- Log out and log back in.
Tip: On macOS, grant Voltasis both Accessibility and Input Monitoring permissions for full functionality (hotkeys and idle detection).
