Using the Timer

Start, stop, and manage the live timer to track your work in real time.

The timer is the fastest way to track your time in Voltasis. It sits at the top of every page, so you can start and stop tracking without interrupting your workflow.

Start the timer

  1. Select a project from the dropdown in the timer bar.
  2. Enter a description of what you're working on.
  3. Click the green Start button (or press the keyboard shortcut).
  4. The timer begins counting. You can navigate to any page while it runs.

Stop the timer

  1. Click the red Stop button in the timer bar.
  2. Your time entry is saved automatically with the project, description, and duration.

Edit a running timer

While the timer is running, you can:

  • Change the project by clicking the project dropdown.
  • Update the description by clicking the text field.
  • Add or change tags by clicking the tag icon.
  • Discard the current timer by clicking the trash icon.

Timer from the time entry page

You can also start the timer from the Time page:

  1. Go to Time in the sidebar.
  2. Click the Start Timer button at the top.
  3. The timer bar activates with your selections.

Keyboard shortcuts

  • S — Start/stop the timer (when the timer bar is focused)

Tip: The timer continues running even if you close the browser tab. When you return, the timer will show the elapsed time since you started.

Billable vs. non-billable time

Time entries inherit the billable status from the project. If the project is set to Non-Billable, all time tracked against it is non-billable. You can override this on individual entries if your project billing method allows it.
