Project Budget Tracking
Set and monitor project budgets to stay on track with hours and costs.
Project budgets help you track whether a project is on target financially and in terms of time spent. Set a budget and monitor progress in real time.
Set a project budget
- Open the project and go to the Budget tab.
- Choose a budget type:
- Hours — Track total hours worked against a limit.
- Amount — Track total billable amount against a monetary limit.
- Enter the budget value.
- Click Save.
Monitor budget progress
The Budget tab shows:
- Budget used — How much of the budget has been consumed (as a number and percentage).
- Budget remaining — How much is left.
- Progress bar — Visual indicator of budget utilization.
- Burn rate — Average daily consumption (helps predict when you'll hit the limit).
Budget alerts
Enable alerts to receive notifications before exceeding the budget:
- Toggle on Budget Alerts on the Budget tab.
- Notifications are sent at 80% and 100% of the budget.
- Alerts go to project Managers and Admins.
Budget vs. actuals
The Budget tab also shows a comparison of budgeted vs. actual values:
- Planned hours/amount — The budget you set.
- Actual hours/amount — What has been tracked so far.
- Variance — The difference between planned and actual.
Tip: Review budget reports regularly, especially for T&M projects. Catching overruns early allows you to adjust scope or communicate with the client proactively.
Scope-level budgets
On the Pro plan, you can set budgets at the scope level in addition to the project level. Scope budgets track independently and roll up to the project total. See Managing Project Scopes for details.
